Background
Beyond Violence, Inc. was formed in December of 1996 after several people came forward to express their concerns for battered women in our community. In reviewing the statistics and talking with the police, it became apparent that a significant number of women in our area were victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and that a shelter was very much needed. Aboard was formed with representatives from various sectors of society, and our grass roots efforts began.
Beyond Violence, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization whose missions to eliminate personal and institutional violence against women and their children by providing support and safety to victims of domestic violence and their children and to victims of sexual assault, direct services, public information, education, systems advocacy and social change activities.
We believe that victims of domestic violence and sexual assault are truly survivors, and we respect their ability to determine what is best for themselves and for their children. By providing options and emotional and practical support, we work to empower women in the process of healing and moving beyond violence.
